Most of the meeting was devoted to working out the many details of the Seldovia Summer Solstice Music Festival. Director Susan Mumma announced that there will be a special performance on the ferry Tustumena on Thursday, enroute between Homer and Seldovia. There will be some additions to the workshop schedule, including a song circle at 10 am at the Tidepool.
Volunteers are still needed for setup and cleanup. General setup will be on Monday, June 9 at 10 am and volunteers can just show up to lend a hand. The stage is already up, but there is decorating and setting up all of those metal folding chairs and lots else that needs willing hands.
Greg Davis described the great new festival t-shirts he’s obtained, and there was discussion of trying to add festival logo stickers to the available schwag for sale at the gate.
One of the things that makes the festival so special for the performers is the chance to jam together afterwards. This has been a problem in the past, Susan Mumma reported, because individuals have invited specific performers to private jams, leaving others wandering the streets wondering where the fun is. This year, it was agreed, jams should be publicly announced and open to all of the festival performers. Greg Davis offered his home, the former Skiap/church building, as a possible venue. The final jam venues will be announced at the festival.
The Arts Council has been approached by a local organization that wants to provide food during the festival. Consensus was favorable so long as certain conditions are met. Mumma was appointed to negotiate this participation. Any food service will be announced on the festival website if an agreement is reached.
Even though it’s time to get down to the actual festival production, there’s still time to be a donor. With this year’s high fuel costs driving transportation prices up, Treasurer Darlene Crawford told the meeting, the festival still needs more support to compensate for this budget drift in the travel subsidies it offers performers as part of their compensation package.
The date for the next meeting was not confirmed, but is due for July 14. Watch our left hand sidebar for updates on exact meeting time and location.

On behalf of Captain Midnight & myself, I want to thank Susan Mumma and the amazing crew she enlisted for the Festival. We were shown the best of hospitality on all sides. It was a lovely time in a lovely setting with lovely people. Should the opportunity allow we would love to do it again. What a treat to have been with you all and share such a celebratory event. Thank you all for inviting us to be part of it.
